What an amazing week! It all began last Sunday when Sasa and Bojan announced that they were getting married…that day!
Just arrived home in Fort Portal after a week of motorcycle training and a week of VSO training in Kampala. It was so lovely to catch up with the other volunteers and hear all of their stories. City life was a bit of a shock after so much time up-country and involved shoe shopping, ice cream, painting the town red and James Bond at the cinema. Oh the life of a volunteer, eh?!
I’m writing this on the 18th October – it is exactly a month since I left England! The time has gone so quickly and yet I feel like I have been here for ages. So much has happened! Especially this week as I left Fort Portal to go to Kamuli District to celebrate “International White Cane Day” (a day for visually impaired people – not a very PC title I know!)
First of all a big thank you for all the messages on here and by email – I really appreciate them and love to here news from home.
Just a quick post to say that I have arrived safely in Uganda complete with luggage. The man at the visa desk was very interested in my place of birth on my passport - he was a Sheffield United fan. You don't meet that many of those in England..!
I've got my bags packed (a rucksack that's almost bigger than me!) and this afternoon my Mum and Dad are taking me to Manchester airport. I have checked in online so I already know my seat number - so now I just need to get on that plane!
VSO has given me a good excuse for lots of parties (not that I ever need much of an excuse)! I have been so overwhelmed with all the support I have received and even though I am very excited about my adventure I know I will miss everybody here so much. Thank you for all the lovely cards and things - it really does mean a lot to me.
I can't believe that there is just one week to go before I head out to Uganda! I have left my lovely job as a Nursery teacher at Spring Cottage in Hull, sold my car, given up my flat and now it is all systems go. At the moment I am feeling very excited, but also very nervous - what will it be like? Who will I meet? Can I do it? Eek!
Thank you for coming to look at my blog! I am just getting it up and running at the moment but come back soon and I should have a few more posts.
